Museum History
Located on Petit Jean Mountain, The Museum of Automobiles was founded in 1964 by the late Arkansas Governor Winthrop Rockefeller. It housed his collection of Antique & Classic Automobiles until 1975, when the Collection was sold, and the building and grounds donated to the State of Arkansas, Department of Parks.
A not-for-profit corporation was formed and reopened the Museum in 1976 with cars on loan from collectors around the country. During the following years, the display was enlarged and upgraded, including a permanent collection of thirty-plus automobiles, donated by supporters in Arkansas and surrounding states. Also on display is an Antique Gun Collection, Antique Arcade Machines, and Automobile related memorabilia.
